Lighting throughout the room, which includes a stylish chandelier over the bed, is ample and set on dimmers, which take some time to figure out how to use. It is automatically set to turn off after about an hour. The gas fireplace provides a warm glow with real flames, and generates a fair amount of heat. The guestroom layout included a small foyer where the honor bar and fridge were located, a walk-in closet, a dedicated work space, an ample furnished balcony and a loveseat at the foot of the bed in front of the large, flat-screen LCD TV. Whether you’re a skier or not, there’s plenty to do the rest of the year, thanks to the full range of indoor and outdoor activities offered through the Compass outfitting shop. There is true ski-in/ski-out access, with three high-speed chairlift stops on the property. High season here is winter, as this is one of North America’s top-rated ski resorts. During our stay, we saw an equal number of families, couples and single business travelers. Despite the subdued opulence, the Montage has a warm, welcoming vibe toward families. At first glance, it looks like a lodge, but there’s more marble than timber, and the rustic-style fixtures are on a grand scale. The upscale aesthetic here is refined Mountain Craftsman. I was a guest of the Park City Convention & Visitors Bureau during my stay.Nestled in the Uinta Mountains, the only range in the United States to run east to west, the Montage Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, claims a picturesque perch at an altitude of more than 8,300 feet. Whether it’s the plush and spacious rooms, wine tasting on the fire-warmed terrace, the many ways you can pamper yourself at the spa, or the ability to ski in and ski out-it’s certainly a sweet retreat. Then, step outside, and you’re on the mountain-ready to go. When it’s time for skiing, head downstairs to Compass Sports for gear rentals, storage and servicing lift tickets and shopping for any clothing items you may have forgotten at home. But before you eat yourself into a food coma, be sure to book some time at the spa, where you can easily forget any travel stress, or work out those sore ski muscles. Better yet, try a different spot for each meal over a couple of days. Hungry? Grab a bite in the Vista Lounge and Terrace, Daly’s Pub and Rec, Yama Sushi, Buzz, or Apex-the Montage’s signature restaurant. Get a breath of fresh air out on the fire-warmed terrace and roast your own S’mores from the hotel’s special provisions (my faves involved peppermint marshmallows) or participate in a wine tasting. Curl up in a comfortable chair next to the fireplace and order a tasty handcrafted cocktail from the bar while you enjoy the views of the mountains. One of my favorite places in the Montage is the Vista Lounge and Terrace, a mountain-style great room that has the air of a majestic gentleman’s club. Winter rates start at $845 per night, and summer rates start at $345 per night. Guest rooms average 600 square feet and suites range from 1,000 to 3,200 square feet. Instead, it seems perfectly placed, and settled nicely into Deer Valley. It’s nice to see a hotel of its size not overwhelm its surroundings. With top-quality service, grand spaces and furnishings, and all the little details covered-it’s easy to feel at home from the moment you walk in the front door.Īrrive at night to see the driveway lined with brightly lit trees, or roll in during the daytime, when you see the hotel tucked into the snow-dusted mountains.
